FBR SHOULD IMMEDIATELY STOP ISSUING NOTICES TO JEWELLERS

Through a unanimously adopted resolution at a joint meeting here on Friday, both the organization also urged the government to remove the ambiguity being found on the issue of levying of GST on Jewellers in line with the 1998 policy.

Speaking to the joint session Association’s Chairman and Convener of the Standing Committee Muhammad Ahmad that some months back FBR authorities admitted that small and medium size jewellers do not fall under the purview of GST under Tier-II scheme.

He alleged that trade instability is deepening with every passing day because of faulty government policies. It is leading towards joblessness and hike in the graph of heinous crimes. He claimed that inflation had reached to new heights during the last 60 years.

Muhammad Ahmad said that economy of the country could completely be ruined if the government ignored the proposals being submitted by the traders’ community. He said that Jewellers were the most hit due to prevailing economic crisis. Gold had reached beyond the purchasing power of the common man because of dwindling worth of the national currency. Artisans of gold have gone jobless.

Punjab Sarafa Gems & Jewellers Association’s General Secretary Rana Muhammad Shahzad and other Jewellers’ leaders said that if the prevailing situation persists, they would be forced to shutter down their businesses.
