GGAPCP LAUNCHES CAPACITY BUILDING FOR JEWELLERS

Gold & Gems Art Promotion Council of Pakistan (GGAPCP) has kick started a series of capacity building workshops for businessmen from Southern Punjab engaged in Gems & Jewellery business with an aim to earn a space in the international market.

Small & Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) is the technical and financial partner in this gigantic and uphill task to train our Jewellers in line with prevailing international standards of this trade.

The workshops are planned on various topics such as importance of branding, contemporary designing skills, taxation regime covering Gems & Jewellery sector etc.

First workshop of this series was held in Multan on March 04, 2021(Thursday) hosted by the SME Business Facilitation Centre, a PSDP Project of SMEDA, Ministry of Industries and Production, Government of Pakistan. As many as 28 Jewellers from Multan participated in this important workshop. The same workshops have also been planned for other important cities of Southern Punjab.

The Center provides information, products and services with the aim to scale up SME development in the region.

Gold & Gems Art Promotion Council of Pakistan (GGAPCP) President and Lahore Division Sarafa & Jewellers Association Chairman Muhammad Ahmad speaking at the concluding session said these workshops are designed to provide the required push to businessmen of this sector so they can earn a respectable place in the international Jewellery market. He said Pakistan is the 8th biggest consumer of gold in the world. Pakistan has large reserves of mineral ores and gemstones. Pakistan is believed to have around 30% of the total deposits of colour gemstones in the world; however, we are not making that much of what we can in export and earning precious foreign exchange.

‘Workshop on branding will encourage our businessmen to get into export themselves and instead of exporting raw gems and stones, fetch more for the country and nation through refined value-added products,’ he concluded.

Earlier Saad Imran Khan, Manager Trainings, SMEFC, Smeda Multan welcomed the participants and apprised them about the objectives of the workshop and importance of branding in acquiring global recognition and earn precious foreign exchange for the country.
